Jonathan Dane, CFA, CFP®, Founder & CIO of Defiant Capital Group, joined FINTECH.TV’s Market Movers: The Opening Bell this week to break down what July’s jobs report means for the Fed’s rate path.
With unemployment ticking down but payroll growth cooling, Jonathan discussed why the report gives the Fed more room to hold rates steady in the near term – while oil prices and inflation risk, particularly tied to ongoing uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz, remain the wildcards that could push longer-term rates higher into year-end.
The conversation also turned to the AI trade. Jonathan pointed to a growing split in the sector: markets are starting to reward companies actually generating earnings from AI investment (think memory chips, data-center infrastructure, and select large-cap tech) over names still trading on future promise alone. He closed with his read on the dollar, the yen carry trade, and why crypto’s current risk-off stretch means Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana are still trading more like risk assets than portfolio diversifiers.
